We are fortunate to have a hardworking and committed team behind Mark Todd Eventing and that enables us the horses to perform at their best at all times.
Jess started out with local international rider Rodney Powell before enjoying a stint in the USA with Will Coleman. Returning to the UK Jess spent some time with NZ riders Caroline Powell and Jesse Campbell before beginning work for Mark and has been a wonderful addition to the team, travelling to all the competitions and proving to be efficient and organised.
Rafa has been an integral part of the team for a couple of years and is Mark's second rider at home. He competes two of his own horses alongside Mark and also competes some of Mark's up and coming novice horses. He is a very talented young rider with a bright future in the sport of eventing.
Ance Polane, BSc, MSc
Born and raised in Latvia, I came to UK to successfully pursue a postgraduate degree six years ago. Now I am a resident animal minder at Badgerstown, spending every day making sure that they are well fed and happy. Much like our brave leader and team mates, I stand on two legs, guts and glory.
Andrew Nickalls has been in the UK for 10 years. He apprenticed at home in New Zealand, and is originally from Tutaruru in the North Island; he took his Diploma of the Worshipful Company of Farriers (DipWCF) exam after some additional training in England.
Buffy Shirley-Beavan (Summerhill Equine Vets)
Buffy has vet to Mark for a number of years. Previously with former Olympic Team Vet John Killingbeck, Buffy started her own practice in 1992. Over the years this has grown into a five vet specialist performance horse practice. The practice has an excellent laboratory for monitoring horse health and fitness.
Christiana Ober is the High Performance Team NZ vet and works alongside Buffy with the listed horses.
Bob looks after all of the horse teeth on the yard.
Born in 1986, Charlotte first found success in the pony showing world, winning at both the Horse of the Year Show and the Royal International Horse Show, before spending four years working for dressage rider and judge, Judy Harvey.
When her mother, Jane, met Carl Hester in 2007, she persuaded him to give her daughter lessons. Fortunately for Charlotte, after grooming for Carl for just 10 days, he gave her a permanent role on his Gloucestershire yard and she has been there ever since. She has enjoyed much success on Carl and Roly Luard's Valegro, and in 2010 they went on the Spanish Sunshine Tour, winning both the Prix St Georges and the Intermediaire I in week one. Charlotte and Valegro won their Grand Prix debut in January 2011 and came second in the Grand Prix before winning the Grand Prix Special at Saumur CD13* in May 2011.
Charlotte owns Fernandez with her mother, who they bought as a three-year-old. Charlotte has produced him herself with Carl's help and both Charlotte and Carl have competed him up to grand prix. Charlotte took Fernandez to Hagen CD13* in May 2011 where she finished 7th in both the Grand Prix and Grand Prix Special.
Charlotte then went on to her first Olympic Games on home soil in London in 2012, and won double Gold! Firstly as part of the only British team to win an Olympic Dressage medal and then as an individual, setting a new Olympic record of 90.089%. Sir Peter Vela
Through NZB Bloodstock Peter and Pam Vela kicked off Mark's return to the sport in 2008 and they have supported him ever since. NZB Campino is their top horse regularly competing at 4 star in Europe.
Di Brunsden and Pete Cattell.
When Di and Pete sent their beloved Major Milestone to Mark in 2010 to contest his first 4 star at Burghley they never dreamed that Mark would finish in 11th place after just one warm up run! Pete and Di have owned horses with Mark ever since, their top horse currently being Leonidas.
Niki Ryan and Dr Elizabeth Donald.
Niki Ryan has been friends with Mark since the 1990's and when she wanted a top rider to campaign her own and Elizabeth Donald's Kiltubrid Rhapsody she did not hesitate to contact Mark!
David and Katherine Thomson.
Based in the USA David and Katherine have supported NZ through the High Performance programme and are involved with projects like the Americas Cup. They joined the team in 2017 with the purchase of the precociously talented McClaren.
