So Mark now finds himself with a Badminton entry, the lovely NZB Campino ( Kinky) who at the age of 17 is now, in Mark's words, something of a "yard pet". The Badminton preparation is a bit different though to previous years as Mark finds himself having just done one OI at Isleham with Kinky before he left for Australia to train He's Eminent for Sir Peter Vela of NZB Bloodstock in a couple of Group one races!
He's Eminent, known at home as Frankie, is by Frankel and is now a 5 year old stallion that came to Mark after a wind op. Mark being Mark hacked him, schooled him, played with some jumps, all the stuff that a horse that had spent his entire life in a racing stables would never have done.
Suffice to say that his first run in Australia wa pretty amazing with a close 2nd and the team are very exited about taking on the mighty Winx at the Queen Elizabeth Stakes on April 13th at Ranswick. Mark reports that Frankie "has put on 15kgs in Oz and looks so much stronger" so that all points to a good feeling about the weekend!
In the meantime, past working student and now resident at Badgerstown in his own right, Rafael Losano is doing a super job of working and competing Mark's horses from Kinky right down to the new youngsters that are owned by Di Brunsdena and Pete Cattell who went so well at Larkhill yesterday.
